Summer Institute: Conditional Licensed Teachers
Off-site degree option: Eastern Shore Higher Education Center The College of Education’s Department of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development (TLPD) is responding to the critical needs of teacher shortages in the State of Maryland by offering a variety of programs for educators and counselors. These programs can assist teachers and counselors with rejuvenating their passion for teaching and advancing their careers.
Paraprofessionals and individuals interested in becoming educators can complete a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education or a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education, Elementary Education, and Sports Management, to prepare for master’s coursework and Standard Professional Licensure.
Continuing Education Courses toward Certification (CECC) for CLT (Conditional License Teachers)
(Note- For State of Maryland Conditional Certificate Educators: Valid for two years and only issued to an applicant in a local school system or publicly funded nonpublic school who does not meet all professional certification requirements)
The CECC is offered through Bowie State's Summer Institute:CLT. It is designed to support Conditional License Teachers to move toward Standard Licensure by providing courses pertinent to their transcript audit. These courses are week-long intensive sessions Monday through Friday from 9am – 6pm. The courses are offered on a rotation schedule based upon the needs of teachers. Course descriptions, dates and times are provided in May.

PRAXIS Core for Educator Licensure
CECC students are required to pass the Praxis Core grade point averages are below 3.0 and Praxis II in their content area. BSU’s College of Education provides Praxis Core and Praxis II assistance for conditional license teachers . strong> It is highly recommended that conditional license teachers enroll in the Praxis Core and Praxis II Sessions or Saturday Bootcamp Sessions when they are offered. Students should take the exam(s) prior to attending the Summer Institute.
Academic support is available in professional seminars. CECC students attend workshops/conferences and participate in other academic activities. Upon arrival back to their schools, they are rejuvenated and empowered with the necessary tools to improve their classrooms and school districts. In addition, CECC can continue in the College of Education’s Graduate Degree Programs: Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.), Master of Education in Reading (M.Ed.), Master of Education in Curriculum and Assessment: Cultural Relevant Teaching and Learning , and Master of Education in Special Education (M.Ed.).
