The Early Childhood/Special Education (EC| SPED) and Elementary Education (|ELED) teacher assistant paraprofessional program offers an intense two-to-three-year course plan where candidates can complete the requirements for Maryland State certification which may be transferrable to states with reciprocity.
Students will take credits each semester including summer and winter sessions. This program is arranged for students who continue to work full time in their paraprofessional roles. The program aims to recruit candidates who hold an AAT, AA, or sufficient transferrable college credit. University credits as specified below prepare candidates in EC and SPED learning careers. We will initiate and implement courses leading to certification in, ELED, EC | SPED with activities to:
- Recruit candidates for cohorts who hold an AA, AAT or 60 transferrable College/University credits;
- Organize courses with cohort choice: online (synchronous component), hybrid, or face-to-face plan;
- Provide cohorts to LEAs within and outside of Maryland;
- Work with LEAs to share information and problem solve together through planning and steering committee meetings;
- Integrate Culturally Responsive/Relevant/Sustaining Pedagogy into courses and/ or separate Professional Development for cohorts;
- Provide edTPA™ training to candidates;
- Assist with Praxis preparation;
- Train candidates to conduct Action Research
