Career & Internship Resources
We help you to prepare for internships in the communications field, so you can be successful in your career.
The Department of Communications requires all students majoring in the program to enroll in COMM 438 Internship Seminar during their final year. To successfully complete the course, you must secure an internship by the start of the course.
We encourage you to begin looking for internships in your second year, and apply for multiple internships to increase your chances of gaining an internship. In addition to the knowledge and skills you learn in communications courses, we prepare you through faculty advising, mentorship and we introduce you to multiple resources, which include a few listed below:
- The Career Development Center at Bowie State University assists students with searching for internships and other career planning
- Handshake is a free, online job and internship database
- Communications Internship Handbook: What HBCU Students Need to Know (ebook or print available), 2022, is a book written especially for HBCU students to prepare them to have a successful internship experience.
