Academic Improvement Programs
If you find yourself in academic trouble, do not despair; you can recover. The Academic Advising Center offers a variety of academic programs to assist student in need of academic support. Students who are conditionally admitted, on academic warning or probation may benefit from a number of services.
Bulldog Early Success (BES)
Bulldog Early Success is designed for students who were admitted on a conditional basis due to a SAT or high school GPA that may not meet general admissions requirements. Students who are eligible for this program will receive notification prior to the beginning of the fall semester. During the fall semester, BES participants are expected to participate by meeting the following requirements:
- Register for a no more than 13 credits
- Meet with an academic advisor to create an academic success plan
- Sign up for tutoring sessions as needed
Emerging Learners
Emerging Learners is designed for students who fall below a 2.0 cumulative GPA after their first semester and are on Academic Warning. The purpose of this program is to facilitate students efforts toward achieving good academic standing. With assistance from an advisor, students are required to create and implement a comprehensive Academic Recovery Plan (ARP).
An Academic Recovery Plan (ARP) outlines the student's academic goals for the semester, as well as specific steps that will facilitate academic success. Students are highly encouraged to be committed to their ARP. In order for your Academic Recovery Plan to be a successful one, you must first identify the factors that caused you to perform unsatisfactorily. Make the necessary changes. Know the grades you need to obtain to raise your GPA and actively participate in the Academic Advisement Center's Recovery Programs. Emerging Learner participants are expected to participate by meeting the following requirements:
- Retake failed courses
- Register for no more than 13 credits
- Meet with an Academic Advisor on a bi-weekly basis
- Provide verification of tutoring services received
- Meet with your Financial Aid Counselor to discuss Satisfactory Academic Performance (SAP) requirements

Academic Recovery
Academic Recovery is designed for students who have earned less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA for two consecutive semesters and are on Academic Probation. The purpose of this program is to facilitate student success toward achieving good academic standing to avoid Academic Dismissal from the University. Students on Academic Probation are usually at risk of financial aid suspension and may face limitations with on-campus housing. The AAC mediates certain requirements that may be a condition of financial aid or on-campus housing reinstatement agreements. Participants in the Academic Recovery program are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Retake failed courses
- Register for no more than 13 credit hours
- Complete and follow an Academic Recovery Plan
- Provide verification of tutoring services received
- Provide verification of academic progress in classes
- Attend/Participate in mandatory academic success workshops to include Student Lingo
- Study two hours outside of class for every hour scheduled in class
